Also known as the New Moon, Ammavasya is that phase of the Moon in the Crone archetype. The Crone is believed to be the wise woman or the Elder of the community, retreating into her dark phase, to conjure the wisdom of the dark canals within.
It is in this place that the Crone is high in her wisdom, capable in her prowess and competent in understanding the ways of the world.
To the Hindus, Ammavasya is the phase of respite – correcting and reinventing past Karma, as well as, connecting with ancestral lineage to seek forgiveness and blessings for a blessed future.
The presiding Hindu deity of this phase is Lord Shiva, Who grants moksha to everyone, dead or alive, to be freed from the bondage of past karma, ancient curses or vows.
