Goddess Katyayani is worshipped on the sixth (shastham) day of Navratri. She is one of the most worshipped forms of Durga and is considered a destroyer of evil. She has four hands and wields a long sword and a lotus flower in two of them. She blesses with the third hand and protects with the fourth.
Legend regard Her as the daughter of sage Katyayana, who was born in the Katya dynasty that originated from the great rishi Vishwamitra. Hence Her name became Katyayani, the daughter of Katyayana. However, other texts believe that She was first worshipped by sage Katyayana, and that is the reason for Her name.
The subtle world which is invisible and unmanifest is ruled by this form of the Mother Divine – Katyayani. In this form, She represents everything that cannot be seen or understood. Katyayani represents the deep and most intricate secrets of Divinity.
Everything that happens and unfolds before us, which is called Prapancha is not limited only to what is visible. That which is invisible and cannot be perceived by the senses is far greater than we can even imagine and comprehend.
That energy that sees beyond the senses and knows beyond logic is Katyayani.
KATYAYANI – THE GODDESS WHO BESTOWS BLISSFUL MARRIAGES
Goddess Katyayani mantra is an effective mantra for people whose marriage is delayed due to various reasons. The Katyayani Mantra for marriage originated from the Bhagavata Purana.
‘Gopis,’ worshipped Goddess Katyayani in order to get Lord Krishna as a husband. Girls worshiped Goddess Katyayani for early marriage and removal of hurdles in love marriages. Katyayani Mantra is very effective in removing all obstacles such as Manglik Dosha or negative influences of planets in a girl’s horoscope. Katyayani Mantra is primarily used to remove obstacles in love and for a fruitful married life.
Kātyāyaṇī is listed as a synonym for Parvati in the Amarkoṣa (an ancient Sanskrit Thesaurus). This name is also used interchangably with Durgā. The specific form of Kātyāyaṇī is known to reside in the sixth chakra, the Ajna or Third eye chakra, between the eye brows. Her blessings bring focus and intellect.
KATYAYANI & THE THIRD EYE CHAKRA
Seeing with the third eye allows us to experience clear thoughts, spiritual contemplation, self reflection, inner guidance and deeper truths.
Kātyāyaṇī’s grace helps us to experience the purity of our true nature by destroying all of our negative selfishness.
Particularly, She helps us to overcome shame.
Kātyāyaṇī removes the hindrances to the inner child, and allows us to find humour in our life so that we act young and playful no matter what our age.
Devotees who worship Mother Katyayani are blessed with child-like innocence, pure devotion, and their requirements for dharma (ideal of perfection), artha (necessary resources), kama (fulfillment of desires), and moksha (liberation) are granted.
On the 6thday of Navaratri, chant Her mantra and focus on the third eye. Pray for Her to return you to your original innocent nature by removing all negative blockages. Surrender to Her and let Her take care of all of your worldly needs, as well as bestow upon you, greater clarity and deeper wisdom.
WHAT IS THE AJNA CHAKRA?
The Third-Eye Chakra, also called the Ajna Chakra, is the center of perception, consciousness and intuition. It is pronounced as ‘Agya Chakra’ and is the focal point of concentration during asana or meditation practices.
The Third Eye Chakra is located between the eyebrows, at the center of your head. While the two physical eyes see the past and the present, the third eye reveals insight into the future. This chakra establishes a connection with the external world through inner vision. Focusing on the third eye motivates us to move beyond the worldly desire and distractions. When the Ajna Chakra is awakened, it increases consciousness and transcends to a higher realm.
The Ajna symbol is an OM positioned over an inverted triangle that is seated within a circle between two lotus petals. This symbol contains two elements associated with wisdom: the upside-down triangle and the lotus flower. It strongly supports the concept of supreme intelligence and spiritual enlightenment. It channels the energy towards universal knowledge and is a gateway to higher consciousness.
