Akshaya Tritiya or Akha Teej is a very popular festival that the Hindus and Jains celebrate every year. It is considered as one of the most important days for the Hindus as it is the day of the birth of the Lord Parasurama.
The Hindus consider this a lucky day and believe that any venture such as businesses or the construction of buildings that begin on this day, reaps huge success and prosperity.
Akshaya Tritiya is considered the golden day of the year because the word Akshaya means the most “Eternal,” that which never diminishes, hence why, Hindus worship Maa Lakshmi on this day.
Brass statues of the Goddess are polished and bathed while adorning Her with sweet smelling flowers and offering Her panch-amrit, (the 5 nectar of honey, sugar, milk, yoghurt and ghee).
Maa Lakshmi is also given gold ornaments to wear with a plate of gold coins as it is believed, that the more abundance you offer, the more abundance comes back. So, many buy gold on this day as it is believed to multiply the gold that comes as returns.
This is a day where the Maa Lakshmi homa puja (fire ritual prayers), are also performed to burn away old energies in the home to make way for new energies and prosperity to come into homes. Incense or sage your home to burn away unwarranted old energies.
If you are venturing into something new business wise or starting a new career, or waiting to make a decision on something relating to finance, this is the day to actually put them into action.
Write your intention (this includes how much you wish to invite into your life), on a red piece of cloth with a gold pen and tie this piece of cloth on a tree in the north-east quadrant of your home (if you live in an apartment, you can tie it on the twig of a potted plant, if you have), and offer your intent from your heart. If you don’t have a potted plant or tree on the north-east quadrant of your home, simply place the red cloth at the place at which you’re going to be setting your candle. This must be done outside your home or at the balcony of your apartment. Place a candle or a ghee or oil lamp there and allow it to burn out on its own. The lamp/candle acts as the activator of your intention. Offer flowers and fruits at the place at which you’re placing your lamp/candle. Give generously – this is the mark of your abundance.
Think positive and invite only positive vibes into your home including into the vessel in which you reside in and have a prosperous day.
May Maa Lakshmi bless you with abundant health and wealth for generations to come. May you have all the abundance you desire in your life.
Have a blessed Akha Teej Lakshmi Puja!
