Brahmacharini is symbolic of the severe penance carried out by Goddess Parvati in Her unmarried form. Brahmacharini is depicted as walking bare feet, wearing a white saree, and carrying a Rudraksha Japa Mala (a rosary) in Her right hand and Kamandal (water pitcher), in Her left. The rudraksh mala represents Her penance for Shiva during Her forest life and the kamandal symbolizes the final years of Her penance – She only had water and nothing else.

Goddess of the Svadisthana (Sacral) Chakra, Brahmacharini blesses you with great emotional strength so that you are able to keep your mental balance and confidence even in your darkest hour. She inspires you to hold on to your ethics and march on, on your path of duty.

The second chakra, Svadhisthana, is also known as the creativity and sexual chakra. It is located above the pubic bone and below the navel, and encompasses the genital region and the hypogastric plexus. The word svadhisthana can be translated as “the dwelling place of the self,” and the element of the second chakra is water, which equals cohesiveness. A balanced second chakra leads to feelings of wellness, abundance, pleasure, and joy. When this chakra is out of balance, a person may experience emotional instability, fear of change, sexual dysfunction, depression, or addictions.

The colour associated with svadisthana is orange, which is a combination of yellow (happiness) and red (energy). It is also on occasion, represented as light blue and white when the chakra undergoes intense changes, whether positively or negatively.

The circles in connection with the lotus flower petals in the sacral chakra represent the cycles of birth, death, and rebirth. The tangential circles also create a crescent moon shape, which reminds us of the connection between creativity and the phases of the moon.

The subconscious mind governs svadisthana, which is associated with emotions that impact relationships – sensuality, self-acceptance and intimacy. This chakra governs how the individual relates to others and what such relationships mean to them.

When the sacral chakra is out of alignment, you may experience any of the follow:

*Chronic low back pain;

*Ovarian cysts and other reproductive issues;

*Urinary tract infections;

*Impotence;

*Pain during intercourse;

*Complications with the bladder and kidneys; and

*Other pelvic and lower abdominal issues. 

Mentally, blocked sacral energy can manifest as issues such as co-dependency or feeling overwhelmed by our emotions. Other signs the sacral chakra might be blocked:

*Overindulgence in sexual fantasy;

*Lack of interest in sex all together; and

*Difficulty expressing our emotions, needs, and creativity.

Goddess Brahmacharini is the goddess of determination – She symbolises that when She puts Her mind to it She can achieve anything She desires. Graceful yet compelling, Goddess Brahmacharini tells us to be persistent and consistent with what we do – our efforts will surely bear fruit.

Oh great goddess, I commit thousands of offences routinely,

So please think me as your slave and please pardon me.

Aavajanam na janami, na janami visarjanam,

Poojam chaiva na janami, kshamyatham Parameshwari.

I do not how to invoke you, nor do I know how do send you away,

And I also do not know how to worship you, and please pardon me.

Manthraheenam, kriyaheenam, Bhakthiheenam, Sureswari,

Yath poojitham maya devi paripoornam thadasthuthe.

I do not know chants or holy action or devotion, Oh God of the devas,

And so whatever worship I do, please make it complete.

Aaparadha satham kruthwa jagadambethi cho ucharath,

Yaam gathim samvapnothe na thaam brahmadaya suraa.

If one calls you, Mother of the universe and commits hundred mistakes,

Still you look after his salvation, and this cannot be done by Brahma and other devas.

Saparadhosmi saranam prathasthvam jagadambike,

Idhanee manu kampyoham Yadecchasi thada kuru.

Oh mother of the universe, having committed several mistakes I seek your refuge,

And please decide on the fate of this shivering one according to your wishes.

Agnana smrutherbranthya yanyoonam adhikam krutham.

Thath sarva kshamyadham devi praseedha parameshwari.

Oh great goddess I have done all this due to ignorance and wayward thoughts,

And so excuse them all and be pleased with me.

Kameshwari jaganmatha sachidananda vigrahe,

Grahanarchameemam preethya praseeda parameshwari.

Oh Goddess of love, Oh mother of the world, Oh source of eternal happiness,

Please accept my worship and with love become pleased with me.

Guhyadhi guhya gopthri grahana asmad krutham japam,

Sidhir bhavathu mey devi thwat prasadath sureshwari.

Oh goddess who is secret of secrets, Please accept the chanting done by me,

And make me powerful, through your grace, Oh Goddess of the devas.
